Emergency Medical Responder
CMU EMS, in conjunction with a local state-registered training agency, offers an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course during the second half of the fall semester (Mini-2). It is open to anyone, and students must register through the training agency to enroll in the class. CMU students can also receive pass/fail units by registering for the course number 69-194.
Course Description
This program is primarily designed for those interested in getting started as EMS, but is appropriate for anyone who may be required to respond to emergencies and has access to Emergency Care equipment. This Pennsylvania Department of Health certified course combines lecture, skill demonstration, and skill practice to provide well-rounded education. Previous CPR or First Aid is recommended, but not required. Successful completion of the program and National Registry examinations merits NREMT certification for a period of three years. This certification is the standard in Pennsylvania and many other states.
Prerequisite: Participants must be at least sixteen (16) years of age at the time of the state examinations.
